Q3. I will complete my 12th in CBSE this year. I want to pursue a degree/ diploma course in interior design/ fashion design. I may not make it to NID/ NIFT. Please give particulars of other institutions/ colleges (in Rajasthan, Gujarat,Maharashtra, Delhi) offering such courses.

ANS. The National Institute of Design – (NID) is internationally acclaimed as one of the finest educational and research institution for industrial, communication, textile and IT integrated design. It has industrial, communication, textile & apparel design courses for undergraduation. In Postgraduation there are various specialization courses in above areas.

To get in NID the student has to clear the entrance test -for subjects: design foundation and creative ability in Phase I and situation test in Phase II. For further information you can refer to their website:www.nid.edu

ANS.The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) was set up in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India. There are 7 centers which are at New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai,Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Kolkata and Mumbai. It has an Undergraduate program in Fashion Design and Technology and Postgraduate program in Management & Technology.

The students have to clear GAT (general ability test) in Maths and English & CAT (creative ability test) in Phase I and studio test in Phase II. For further information you can refer to their website:www.niftindia.com

ANS.Admission to all good institutions would be competitive, so you should prepare for design aptitude tests, in general, if you wish to find a seat in any worthwhile college.

For interior design, consider the five year undergraduate programme at CEPTUniversity, Ahmedabad(www.cept:ac.in).Theaptitude test is usually conducted in June at Ahmedabad.

If you are appearing for IIT-JEE, you could apply for Bachelor of Design at IIT-Guwahati.
