Q1. I am a science student of class XII and would like to know the new eligibility criteria for appearing in the Joint Entrance Test [JEE-2006] as well as the pattern of examination for admission to the undergraduate courses in the seven Indian Institutes of Technology?

Q2. I am a science student of class XII and interested in pursuing an engineering degree. Could you please let me know about the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), AllIndia Engineering /Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE)?

Q3. I am a Science student of Class XII interested in pursuing a career in Architecture. Could you please give me information about some important architecture Entrance Tests?

QS. I am a science student of class XII and would like to know the new eligibility criteria for appearing in the Joint Entrance Test [JEE-2006] as well as the pattern of examination for admission to the undergraduate courses in the seven Indian Institutes of Technology?

ANS. For admission to the undergraduate course in the seven Indian Institutes of Technology i.e. IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, and IT BHU, Varanasi and IndianSchool of Mines Dhanbad you have to appear for the joint entrance examination.

The Eligibility Criteria is as under:-

The candidate appearing in the 10+2 or equivalent examination should secure at least 60% aggregate [55% for SC/ST and physically disabled.]

A candidate can have only 2 attempts to write the JEE with effect from 2006 i.e. in the year in which he or she passes the XII standard examination and /or in the following year.

A candidate who has already joined any of the IIT’s, IT BHU, Varanasi and ISM, Dhanbad through JEE- 2006 will not be permitted to appear in JEE in future.

A candidate whose date of birth falls on or after October 1st 1981 is eligible for JEE-2006.

The Pattern of Examination: - of JEE -2006 has been changed. The new pattern is that there would be three papers physics chemistry and math on the same day. The paper would be objective and subjective type in nature designed to test the aptitude, comprehension and analytical ability of the candidate.

ANS. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), conducts the All India Engineering /Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) for admission to the degree level course in Engineering and Architecture in National Institutions of Technology, Indian Institution of Information Technology, Deemed Universities and Institutions in the Centre/State/UTS other than those covered by Joint Entrance Examination/State Level Entrance Examination for paid or unpaid seats based on the scores.

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must have passed 10+2 (Senior Secondary class –XII) examination or its equivalent referred to as a qualifying examination from a recognized board/university for admission to BE/B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Planning courses as under:

ANS. Architecture is a multidisciplinary profession requiring a combination of artistic technological and sociological expertise. There are several entries for pursuing a career in architecture. The All India Engineering /Architecture Entrance Examination AIEEE paper 2 is meant for applicants of the B.Arch programme at the architecture colleges admitting through AIEEE. The notification is expected around December. For detailed information visit:www.aiee.nic.in. The IIT, B.Arch Examination syllabus is outlined in the brochure of The Indian Institute ofTechnology Joint Entrance Test (IIT-JEE) which is expected around November, for detailed information visit: www.iitd.ac.in/jee. State level Aptitude test in Architecture (SATA) by the Directorate of Technical Education Gujarat is notified in May and held only at CEPT University Ahmedabad in June for admission to: Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Vadodara (M.S.U) and School of Architecture Ahmedabad CEPT University. National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is conducted by the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NAISA); Academic Unit Council of Architecture.
