ANS. The legal profession is a growing and lucrative profession all over the world. Lawyers are held in high esteem in our society. In our daily lives, in one way or the other, we may come across situations where legal advice is required. In such a situation we need the advice of a legal professional who can analyze and interpret the law properly.
Lawyers counsel clients on their legal rights and suggest course of action. They also draw up legal documents such as wills and contracts, conduct negotiations on legal issues and represent clients in court and tribunal proceedings.
There are various branches of specialization in law like civil law, criminal law, corporate law, property law, income tax law, marine law, public international law, family law, labour law, press law, excise law, constitutional law, administrative law sale of goods law, trade mark, copy right and patent law etc one can choose from the above.

ANS. The Law School,University of Jammu offers the 5 years Bachelors of Law course.
The Eligibility Criteria: -required for this bachelor’s degree course is that a candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination in any discipline of J&K Board of Secondary Education or an examination of any other Board /University recognized as equivalent thereto, with not less than 45% marks.
Mode of Selection: - The selection for admission to this course is made on the basis of the candidate’s performance in the written entrance test to be conducted at Jammu. The syllabus of the written test consists of General English, Legal Aptitude and General Knowledge. The test is of 2 hours duration.
The Intake and Distribution of Seats is as follows: - 50 seats are provided in the bachelors of Law 5 year’s course. The payment seats are over and above the normal number of seats mentioned above. 67% are the non reserved open merit seats, of which 20% of the non reserved seats are to be filled up by the candidates qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination from Boards /Schools out side the territorial jurisdiction ofUniversity of Jammu provided they fall in order of merit set by the University of Jammu. Remaining 33% seats are reserved for the candidates belonging to various reserved categories.
The Fee Structure: - For candidates seeking admission under open merit seats is Rs 15,500 per annum and for candidates seeking admission under payment seats category is 1.50 Lac in addition to the normal fee.

QS.Could you kindly give me information about the selection procedure into the 5 years degree programme in LLB offered by the renowned law institutes in the country?
ANS. The Renowned law institutes are offering admission to their five years degree course only on the basis of performance in a written entrance test after setting a basic eligibility criteria of plus two with 50% marks and an upper age limit of 20years[ for general candidates.]There may be variation on eligibility, which can be verified from the actual admission notification for a particular session.
Law universities like the National law school of India university, Bangalore, NALSAR University of Law Hyderabad, National Law University Jodhpur National University Of Judicial Sciences, Kolkata or the National Law Institute University, Bhopal are known to conduct National Level entrance exams with centres in various parts of the country allowing students from across the country to apply and appear for admission to their programmes. The law entrance tests of these Institutes are some what similar but not identical. A law entrance test is expected to test English language proficiency including English comprehension, general knowledge including current affairs [national and international] quantitative aptitude [numerical ability], logical and analytical reasoning and legal aptitude. There tends to be a mix of objective [multiple choice] type questions and short answer questions in most cases. The descriptive type part of a test may have questions requiring short answers as also essay/a short note on current topic. Each university keeps modifying its pattern of testing. Most of the tests are of two hours.

The Admission Notifications of the Law institutions are usually published from January onwards except in the case of NUJS, Kolkata which is advertised around October.
