ANS. There are both Government and Non Government Private Colleges affiliated to the University of Jammu offering Bachelors in Computer Application (BCA) three years degree course. All admissions to the BCA course in the colleges affiliated to the University of Jammu are made through the Entrance Test to be conducted by Director, College Development Council, University of Jammu.

ANS. There are both Government and Non Government Private Colleges affiliated to the University of Jammu offering Bachelors in Computer Application (BCA) three years degree course. All admissions to the BCA course in the colleges affiliated to the University of Jammu are made through an Entrance Test to be conducted by Director, College Development Council, University of Jammu.

The Eligibility Criteria:-The BCA course is open to candidates who have qualified the Higher Secondary Examination [10+2] pattern of the J& K state board of school education or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with mathematics as an elective subject, [Business math shall not be treated as an elective subject for the purpose] and has obtained at least 45% or more marks.

Mode of Selection: -Selection for admission to the BCA course is through the Common Written Entrance Test. The admission would be made strictly in order of rank in the merit list of the Common Entrance Test. The entrance test is of two hours duration, designed to measure the candidate’s ability and knowledge in the following areas:-

i] Mathematics [10+2 level] - 40%

ii] Analytical and logical Reasoning - 40%

iii] General Knowledge -20%

Total 100 Marks

The Fee Structure:-for colleges affiliated to the University of Jammu:

a] Non Government Colleges: The admission fee is 20,600/- p.a. not including the dues charged by the University of Jammu.

b] Government Colleges: The admission fee is Rs 10,000 p.a. not including the dues charged by the University of Jammu. The allotment of colleges Govt. or Non Govt is subject to merit cum option of the candidate Vis-a- Vis availability of seats in the college.

For your information the notification inviting applicants for admission to the BCA three years course is out. The information brochure- cum- application form can be obtained between 8am - 1.30 pm on payment of Rs 500/-in cash, at the sale counter in the office of College Development Council, University Of Jammu and all Government Degree Colleges imparting instruction in BCA course from 1st June to 15th June 06. Last date of Submission of forms is 16th June 06 at 1.30pm [with out late fee] and up to 19th June 06, 1.30pm [with late fee of Rs 100/-]. The Entrance test is to be conducted on July 11th 06.

ANS. University of Mumbai does not offer BCA course but various colleges affiliated to the university offer the bachelors of Science in information technology (BSc IT) course. Eligibility for BCA and BSc IT courses is the same. Students completing class 12th or equivalent with mathematics are eligible to apply for such courses. As you have passed Class XII with science, you may also consider pursuing BSc Computer Science offered by Mumbai University or BCS offered by University of Pune. Computer engineering would be the option leading to the widest range of placement opportunities. It may be possible for you to pursue BCA through Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi(www.ignou.ac.in) as a distance education programme.

ANS. Delhi University offers a three-year BSc Computer Science (Hons) which is open to students from all disciplines provided they have mathematics, one language and two other subjects listed as academic subjects by their respective Boards. Students should have secured 60% or more in maths and 55% and above as aggregate. Admission would be based on the aggre­gate of best three academic subjects including maths and not more than one language. Students who have studied physics, chemistry and maths in plus two/ equivalent will get 5% additional weight age in admissions. Log on to www.du.ac.in for Delhi University's admission procedure.
